Message AndFTP has stopped unexpectedly

Versions 1.0 and 1.1 of AndFTP Cupcake version of HTC Hero I can connect to server OK, when I try to download a file I get the message "The application AndFTP (process lyseoft,andftp) has stopped unexpectedly. An empty file is created but that is all. Any ideas on how I can solve this would be appreciated.

Did you select/browser a writable folder (i.e. sdcard) before downloading ?

Hi - yes I am trying to load into my SD card - I tried at the root directory of the card and also into a directory I created on the card with the same result.
