External access to server not working

Hi!
I'm using AndFTP to dowload files from my home server (Filezilla), and the problem is that when I put the private IP of the server in hostname I have access to the server (locally), but when I put the public IP in hostname (in order to access the files in the server from outside de LAN/WLAN), I'm unable to connect (connection refused), and there's no activity in the server whatsoever.
