how open .apk file that are given in sample.

Dear all, me are new in andriod . i have project for andriod application. i have successfully install eclips, sdk pakages and al stuf for development for andriod. but i dont knw how open .apk file. coz when i have download these file, and click on it for opening, its give option that choos the approporite software for opening, plz help me.
