Folder listing FAIL with Registered Trademark character

I was having trouble with a certain folder on my FTP server failing to list files from AndFTP on my Droid X. After some time troubleshooting and moving files and folders around, I discovered that it was the Registered Trademark character (®) in a subfolder name and file name in the folder that was failing to list that was causing the folder listing to fail. Once I removed the ® character from the folder and file name, the folder listed files properly. I imagine that this would happen with other special characters as well. I hope this helps someone.
