Speed question

I have tried several FTP clients by now. With some I can download with max 300kB/s from my Filezila server on Windows7 64Bit. With AndFTP I can download about 1000kB/s but somehow I dont think this is the top speed yet. Why doesnt AndFTP downloads even with more? The settigns are default.
I also tried aFileSync what is basically just a folder sync ftp client where you cant select single files. But it gets up to 2200kB/s also.
The phone is a HTC Desire. Any suggestions?
