Hang on list when connecting to localhost

I am having trouble with the FTP data connection in passive mode when connecting to localhost.

The status message at the bottom states:
150 Opening ASCII mode data connection for file list -- this is where it hangs.

Is there a way I can set the process to debug and pull the detailed status messages andFTP creates?

I am using Motorola Droid (not rooted) and the latest update of your software.

I am connecting to localhost and tunneling the TCP through SSH2 TCP port forwarding. This works fine on a PC, but will not work on the smart device (Processor strain or just android?)

andFTP will connect fine to the FTP server without the SSH. I would like to see debug info from the FTP software to see what's going on.
