can't connect via SFTP

I must be missing something very dumb.

I am connected via wifi on an internal network.
I'm trying to connect via sftp to an ubuntu box.
In case this is applicable, I don't have a DNS set-up, so I'm using the IP address in the "hostname" box.
I've tried using public key auth and password-based auth.

In all cases, I get the "Authentication - Attempt n" dialog over and over. I notice the little log below is saying either: "No route to host" or "Auth fail".

I can't see any request in the auth log in the server. Though if I connect from another desktop computer, even if I reproduce the authentication problem by providing a wrong password, I can see the authentication denial there.

Also, connecting via SSH with another SSH client in the Android phone works fine.

Everything seems to indicate AndFTP is not even getting to the point where it can do the authentication.

Any tips? Pls help.

Thanks,
Julian

Are you using PASSIVE or ACTIVE mode in FTP advanced settings ?

Hallo!

I got the same problem. I'm trying to connect to a remote SSH/SFTP machine. I specified an IP address and not a hostname. AndFTP keeps asking me for username and password over an over again.

I can't find anything in the servers logfiles, too.

AndFTP says "Autt fail" at the bottom of the screen.

I tried both modes.

Thanks!

Are you using a key too ? If so then only DSA keys are supported, using RSA could lead to the behavior you describe.
